CHARACTER INFO
• Character Name: Ironeye
• Character Age: Unknown (adult)
• Character Canon: Elden Ring: Nightreign
• Canon Point: After slaying Heolstor
• Character History: Ironeye was a member of a mercenary outfit known as the Fellowship, which "travel[s] around the world, settling conflicts through clandestine acts". In particular, he was feared for his "split-second judgment" and knack for exploiting enemy weaknesses, as well as his ability to exert control over battles from a distance with his bow.
At the instruction of his handler, Isolde, Ironeye traveled to the Limveld region to track down a traitor to the Fellowship, known as 'the Monster'. Upon his arrival, however, he was sidetracked and summoned to the magical Roundtable Hold to serve as a Nightfarer -- one who braves the supernatural Night (a magical natural disaster involving endless azure rain) to slay a being known as the Nightlord. Ironeye agreed, and thereupon began simultaneously tracking his quarry while also joining his fellow Nightfarers on expeditions into Limveld to slay the Nightlords one by one.
Eventually, Ironeye found the Monster, only to discover his quarry was an alternate version of himself from another world. The Monster had succumbed to the allure of the Night and abandoned his duty, choosing instead to hunt his fellow Nightfarers. Despite having his target within his grasp, however, and stabbing the man with great dexterity, Ironeye found that the Monster simply would not die. With resignation, the Monster revealed that neither Ironeye nor the Monster could be killed by conventional means.
Ironeye was obliged to track down an artifact that could kill the Monster, at the man's own request. In return, the Monster revealed a truth that Ironeye had forgotten as a side effect of his continued exposure to the Night: Both men were part of Those Who Live in Death, a faction of undead afflicted by a curse that did not "allow them to rest" until the Nightlord was defeated.
Through found correspondence, it is revealed that the Fellowship simply kills its own assassins after they have outlived their usefulness to the organization. Moreover, it is suggested that Isolde was murdered by the Fellowship for voicing a traitorous ambition: to extend the Night to ensure that Ironeye and his fellows may fight on endlessly, free from the influence of the Fellowship.
After killing the Monster in compliance with his original orders, Ironeye resolves to slay the Nightlord Heolstor in accordance with his agreement with the Roundtable Hold. After doing so, however, he is confronted by an enigmatic, corpselike figure, seemingly connected to Heolstor. By killing this being, Ironeye can ensure that the Night will indeed continue for the foreseeable future, ravaging the land of Limveld but also fulfilling Isolde's dream. The question: What will he do...?
• Character Personality:
— Positive Trait: Team Player.
For someone who lives his life as a lone assassin, Ironeye's in-game kit revolves around being the perfect teammate. All of his abilities are geared towards providing value for not only himself but his allies, from risking his own safety to boost their damage capacity to instantly reviving them from the break of death. His chosen weapon specialty, the bow, is perfect for harrying and debuffing enemies so his friends can finish them off.
His senses additionally allow his allies to find relevant gear quickly. Mage? He can find you the perfect staff to drop a magical moon on your enemies. Heavy? Here's a free Frozen Rotten Greataxe, enjoy. He simply makes life easier for others by swinging into an empty role when someone needs him.
He also chooses to seek out allies of his own volition, as in the case of Duchess and the Roundtable Hold, and seems to get along with his fellow Nightfarers without incident.
— Positive Trait: Emotional Support Assassin. Despite what one might conclude from his appearance, Ironeye is a weirdly supportive friend, as shown in his interactions with his fellow Nightfarer, Raider. He'll come to every one of Raider's gladiator matches in the Tourney of the Lands Between, despite opening admitting to being envious that he was not invited to participate. He'll ask about Raider's past adventures, issue at least one (1) joke to cheer him up, and even provide sympathy and reassurance when Raider must face painful memories from his past. He's simply there for his friend every step of the way, what a guy.
— Positive Trait: Strategic. Ironeye is feared as a patient, persistent combatant whose quick judgment allows him to exploit even a moment of weakness. He'll dip in and out of melee range as opportunity allows, he'll swing in to support an ally or backstab an enemy, and he's constantly looking for ways in which he can apply what he's learned to help him on future jobs. While he doesn't have the brute strength required to facetank foes, he has excellent mobility and bosses FUCKING HATE HIM on sight, meaning he's a great choice for dodge tanking/distraction until his allies have the chance to regroup themselves -- which of course requires a ton of situational awareness and calculation on the fly.
— Negative Trait: Loner. If left wholly to his own devices, Ironeye will often withdraw to a quiet corner (inside) or isolated cliff (outside). He'll hone his weapons, practice his bow, etc., and may urge even his allies to keep things short if they speak to him. When he does engage people, he's not unfriendly, and will even offer advice or speak his thoughts aloud. However, his behavior may come across as intimidating or antisocial to some. It's also potentially dangerous to wander off alone, but he likes doing it.
— Negative Trait: Ruthless. In his character storyline, Ironeye is 100% capable of sacrificing the whole of Limveld in the pursuit of his own freedom from the Fellowship. In fairness, one could say that he didn't cause the natural disaster that threatens it in the first place, that some denizens of Limveld are able to survive the Night, and that he's not from the Lands Between so what happens to it isn't really his problem. However, the truth is that if the incentives are right, he'll pull that proverbial trolley lever without hesitation. He won't even hesitate to assassinate AU versions of himself, if necessary.
— Negative Trait: Indifferent to death. Ironeye is an assassin by trade and therefore kills people for a living. As one of Those Who Live in Death, and now as a Nightfarer, he's 'died' or seen death countless times and it just doesn't affect him the way it probably should. Whether it's burning alive in dragonfire, falling into a volcano, or getting obliterated by a giant arrow with the destructive power of an ICBM, he's seen it all. In fact, an alternate version of Ironeye actively seeks out death, having seemingly tired of endless battles. Either way, he's unlikely to get particularly emotional about someone kicking the bucket.
• Character Skills:
• Archery. Incredible aim, can fire on the run, S-tier at shooting arrows.
• General weapons proficiency. Knives, swords, cannons, crossbows, staves, whatever it is, Ironeye can probably handle it from middling to excellent efficiency. He's most proficient with weapons that rely on dexterity over strength, such as bows, whips, and thrusting swords.
• General foraging and survival. He's spent a lot of time in ruins, snow, forests, out in the rain, etc., and can generally fend for himself and care for his own weapons and gear.
• Excellent physical condition. Climbing, jumping, running, etc.
• Eagle eye. Ironeye has a particular talent for finding items that might be useful. He's a little loot gremlin, and not a stranger to finding hidden treasures, entrances, etc.
• Experienced at fighting all manner of foes. Humans, giants, beasts, dragons, aliens from outer space... give him a bow and a flask, and he'll go fight God.
• Character Inventory:
— ITEM ONE: Ironeye's bow.
— ITEM TWO: Ironeye's quiver. Contains arrows. Can also be converted into a custom greatbow.
— ITEM THREE: His personal dagger.
• Important Notes: Ironeye is undead, but breathes, walks, and talks like his fellow Nightfarers. He looks mostly like a normal guy and is capable of eating, I have no idea if he strictly requires either food or sleep in canon. He does have one glowing eye which is a little weird, but bleeds and feels pain like normal.
In-game, he'll operate like a normal human being in the setting, with the same survival needs (water, sleep, recovery from injuries, protection from the cold, etc)., with the one exception of not normally needing to eat unless required by in-game abilities/events.
